Event Stewards 

This winter, Baccanalia is recruiting a team of Event Stewards to help deliver AGLOW at Auckland Palace and Deer Park, Bishop Auckland.

Running from 19 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, AGLOW welcomes thousands of visitors through a spectacular winter light trail — and our stewarding team will be at the heart of the live event.

We’re looking for friendly, reliable people who enjoy working with the public and want to be part of a busy, welcoming event team.

You don’t need previous event experience. Full event training and briefing will be provided.

The Role

As an Event Steward, you could be:

• welcoming visitors and providing information
• supporting queues, crowd flow and access routes
• checking tickets or access points
• monitoring areas of the event and reporting hazards or issues
• supporting visitor welfare, accessibility and lost-person procedures
• helping keep public areas clean and tidy
• undertaking routine litter picking, bin changes and toilet checks
• supporting first-aid response where appropriately qualified
• moving between different positions as the event changes throughout the evening

This is primarily an outdoor, visitor-facing role, so you’ll need to be comfortable working outside during the winter and spending periods of the shift standing or walking.

Pay

Aged 16–20:
£10.85 basic pay + £1.31 holiday pay = £12.16 per hour
(24th, 26th, 31st Dec: £15.85 basic pay + £1.91 holiday pay = £17.76 per hour)

Aged 21+:
£12.71 basic pay + £1.53 holiday pay = £14.24 per hour
(24th, 26th, 31st Dec: £17.71 basic pay + £2.14 holiday pay = £19.95 per hour)

Rolled-up holiday pay is paid alongside your normal wages.

How the Shifts Work

You do not need to be available for every AGLOW date. Successful applicants will normally need to be available for at least three AGLOW shifts per week across the event run. Availability does not guarantee that a shift will be offered on every available date.

As part of your application, we’ll ask you to tell us which dates you’re genuinely able to commit to. If you’re successful, we’ll agree a specific set of contracted shifts with you before you start.

Shifts have a confirmed start time, but finishing times vary according to visitor numbers and operational requirements. Staff are released progressively as the event becomes quieter.

Confirmed shifts will normally provide a minimum of 2.5 paid hours, although many shifts will be longer.

There may also be opportunities to pick up additional shifts during the event run.

Who We’re Looking For

We’d particularly like to hear from people who are:

• friendly and confident speaking to members of the public
• reliable and able to commit to the shifts they agree to
• calm and sensible when dealing with problems
• happy working as part of a team
• comfortable working outdoors during winter evenings
• able to follow instructions and safety procedures
• aged 16 or over and legally entitled to work in the UK

Previous stewarding, events, hospitality, or customer service is useful, but not essential.
